High-Speed Pogo Pin Connector Solutions for USB 5Gbps and 10Gbps

High-Speed Data Through a Docking-Friendly Interface

Many connected devices need more than a conventional charging contact. They must transfer firmware, diagnostic records, images, video, transaction data or other large files while still providing a fast, repeatable and easy-to-use docking experience.

Goochain develops custom high-speed Pogo Pin connector solutions that combine USB Type-C connectivity with spring-loaded contacts. Depending on the approved design, the connection can support charging, USB 5Gbps or USB 10Gbps data, magnetic alignment and blind-mating operation through a compact device interface.

These solutions are intended for OEM and ODM projects. The Pogo Pin arrangement, cable or FPC structure, connector housing, shielding, grounding and mechanical alignment are designed around the customer's product rather than selected from a universal one-size-fits-all cable.

Two Connection Structures

Round Cable Assembly

The round cable version is suitable for external connections, detachable accessories, charging docks, test tools and installations that need conventional cable flexibility and strain relief. Cable length, outer diameter, conductor structure, shielding, jacket and overmold can be customized.

For a current example, view the 10Gbps USB-C to magnetic Pogo Pin cable developed for high-speed data and repeated docking.

 FPC or FFC Connection

The FPC/FFC version is designed for products with limited internal space, thin housings, controlled bend paths or a need to route the connection around internal components. The contact area, reinforcement, bend zone, overall outline and connector position can be developed around the mechanical stack-up.

For space-constrained designs, view the high-speed Pogo Pin FPC cable option.

Why High-Speed Pogo Pin Design Requires System Engineering

A Pogo Pin interface adds a spring-loaded contact transition to the USB channel. At USB 10Gbps, the complete channel—not one component alone—determines whether the connection performs reliably.

Engineering considerations include:

  • differential pair routing and pair-to-pair consistency;
  • impedance control through the cable, FPC, connector and PCB transition;
  • short and continuous return paths;
  • shielding and grounding strategy;
  • pin arrangement, contact geometry and contact stability;
  • crosstalk between data, power and control contacts;
  • cable or FPC length and material;
  • connector alignment, working stroke and mechanical tolerance;
  • host, device and test-fixture performance.

Goochain reviews the electrical and mechanical design together. Prototype validation is performed on the agreed configuration because changing the cable length, pin assignment, contact arrangement, PCB or device can change the final result.

Applications

Rugged Tablets, PDAs and Barcode Scanners

Magnetic or guided docking can simplify repeated charging and data synchronization for field-service devices, warehouse scanners, handheld terminals and enterprise equipment.

POS and Retail Equipment

Pogo Pin contacts can integrate power and data into a tablet stand, payment terminal dock or self-service device while reducing the need to handle the device's main USB receptacle during every shift.

Medical and Diagnostic Electronics

Custom cable assemblies can connect portable monitors, diagnostic modules, charging stations and service tools. Requirements are reviewed according to the intended device and quality plan.

Industrial and Test Equipment

High-speed spring-loaded connections can support programming, data acquisition, inspection fixtures, removable modules and service docks where repeatable contact and quick alignment are important.

Smart Devices and Wearables

Compact magnetic or FPC structures can be integrated into products that have limited space or require a cleaner external interface.

Customization Scope

Goochain can develop the connection around the device rather than asking the customer to redesign the device around a standard cable. Available engineering items include:

  • USB Type-C orientation and connector style;
  • Pogo Pin quantity, pitch and layout;
  • magnetic polarity and alignment features;
  • round cable, shielded cable, FPC or FFC structure;
  • charging, data, ground and auxiliary pin assignment;
  • cable length, outer diameter and jacket material;
  • FPC outline, bend zone and reinforcement;
  • housing, overmold, strain relief and mounting features;
  • shielding, grounding and EMI control;
  • contact plating and mechanical life requirements;
  • logo, label and packaging when required;
  • validation plan and quality documents agreed for the project.

Development Process

  1. Requirement review: Application, connector system, data rate, power requirement, mechanical space, environment and volume are confirmed.
  2. Engineering proposal: Goochain prepares the connection concept, pin definition, structure and preliminary validation plan.
  3. Drawing confirmation: Customer and Goochain confirm the 2D/3D drawing, pinout and critical specifications.
  4. Prototype development: Samples are produced for mechanical fit, contact, charging and data testing.
  5. System validation: Performance is checked using the agreed host, device, fixture and cable configuration.
  6. Pilot and mass production: Process controls, inspection items and packaging are finalized before scalable production.

Quality and Manufacturing Support

Goochain supports engineering review, cable and FPC manufacturing, molding, assembly, electrical testing, appearance inspection and final quality control. Production is managed under Goochain's ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management systems. Project-specific compliance or documentation is confirmed according to the product, target market and customer requirements.
